Before I started my business, I thought my idea of being a virtual assistant was a pie in the sky concept, that what I was trying to do was very obscure. I was very very wrong, and I’d like to share the groups that I am a member of or I know of that are great resources for finding a Virtual Assistant that will be the right fit for your business.
I believe collaborating rather than being in competition with your peers is a massive positive, because Virtual Assistants are not always a one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to working for businesses. Not to mention the varying skill sets and experience that different virtual assistants are able to bring to the table.
I also advocate for supporting Australian based virtual assistants. Yes, you can get work done for extremely affordable rates via overseas sites however there’s the “you get what you pay for” in terms of quality and there’s also the factor of local virtual assistants understanding how businesses operate within Australia, there’s less of a risk of miscommunication or your requirements being lost in translation.
The Freelance Collective – www.thefreelancecollective.com.au
A great resource for a wide range of freelancers, not only do a few Virtual Assistants hang out here but also a wide range of creatives such as graphic designers, copywriters, project managers, marketing professionals also operate from here. Businesses have the option to browse the members database or to submit a brief of their requirements. The professionals within the group respond directly to the business with their rates, packages and expertise. The Freelance Collective is the concept of Australian business journalist & wordsmith Nina Hendy, who enlisted the help of a small group of independent Australian creative freelancers to build a platform that enables freelancers to promote themselves as well as collaborate to share opportunities. I’m personally a member and I’ve actually used the services of freelancers that are members – and they are all fantastic people to work with.
AVACOE – Australian Virtual Assistants Centre of Excellence – www.avacoe.com.au
The AVACOE is a place for business owners in Australia to be able to find excellent support for their business in the form of professional Virtual Assistants. Chris Crowe is the fantastic owner of this resource and is the go to person and provides a service for businesses to submit their request for proposal – http://avacoe.com.au/index.php/find-a-virtual-assistant/ .
Virtually Yours Virtual Assistant Network – http://www.virtuallyyours.com.au/
Virtually Yours is the business of Rosie Shilo, a network for over 170 Australian Virtual Assistants which she founded in 2004. The website provides a portal for businesses to submit a job request for free, or for a fee to submit a job request from their reference checked VA’s. In addition to this they provide a range of training resources for virtual assistants based on their book VA VA Voom: How to be an amazing Virtual Assistant and Every Client’s Most Valued Asset. I personally am not a member however from what I have seen and heard of Virtually Yours they are a great resource for finding a VA.
It was incredibly surprising to me but if you are a member of a local business networking group on Facebook, you can bet there is a savvy virtual assistant or few lurking in the ranks. Being a member of a business networking group on Facebook has been the biggest positive I could have ever done when starting my business, not only do you gain exposure for your business but a good group is an extremely uplifting and collaborative group of professionals. If you’d like some tips on my favourites, feel free to drop me a line.
I hope this article has helped give you a few options as to where to source the right virtual assistant for your business. The advent of technology has opened up a wide range of options for businesses, so it’s a great thing when you are able to fully utilise it to assist with sourcing the right people who can help you to grow your business.
