I’ve come across this question multiple times lately – especially when I have been speaking with friends, family and pretty much any person I meet that asks me the question – so what do you do?
Anyone who knows me personally knows that I have worked as an administration assistant in varying industries and degrees for a long time so when I say that I’ve started my own business as a Virtual Assistant there’s usually a moment of confusion on their face when they process what that actually means. For the record, it isn’t this (which I found hilarious by the way – Neil Patrick Harris is one of my favourite actors):
Until I started my business I actually didn’t have a clue as to how huge of an industry there is for Virtual Assistants but I am extremely happy now knowing that I’m not on my own.
A virtual assistant is a self-employed administrative or personal assistant who works remotely for clients. However the tasks that are completed can be wide and varied. Here are just some of the tasks that virtual assistants undertake:
- Document preparation
- Online Research
- Data Entry
- Data Presentations
- Email Management
- Social Tasks (writing cards, letters etc)
- Travel Bookings
- Social Media Management
- General Research
- Events Management
Some virtual assistants operate as specialists within certain industries and areas (social media, marketing, transcription) whereas some are generalists and will take care of a varying range of tasks for clients. And as I mentioned there many virtual assistants in the marketplace so finding one that suits your business, requirements and preferences shouldn’t be a difficult task.
